True Photography bio picture

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!  Here you will find updates, recent sessions and information about me and my girls.

My photography is natural, fun and candid.  I specialize in portraits of people, including families, bellies, babies, children, seniors, weddings, and events. I believe that candid photographs in natural lighting and natural scenery make the best photographs.  I will make suggestions for poses but find that the "between poses" are typically the best photographs because the forced smiles disappear which allows for a beautiful natural look.

I am a photographer. I am a mother. I capture raw moments. I have a quirky sense of humor. I love to laugh and I love to make people laugh. I am very sensitive & I cry…a lot.  I am thankful. I am blessed.

Bellies to Babies | Family

I love working with first-time parents. During their maternity session, there is so much wonder, hope and enthusiasm.  When I come back a few months later, I can see on their faces so much excitement, so much joy and sometimes a bit of exhaustion.  They’re usually in a sleep-deprived daze, just living from one feeding to the next.  But best of all , you can tell that they are so flooded with pure bliss and love for this tiny, miraculous creature. It is so fun to sit and talk with them, hearing their stories about how the baby is sleeping, birthing experiences, the baby’s uniqueness, etc.

Luckily for these parents, their baby has been sleeping very well…except for today.  Although he was content as could be, Baby J had no interest in sleeping, which is one reason why I book several hours for newborn sessions.  I was thrilled to photograph such a beautiful, loving family.

Here is to many years full of love, laughter and an abundance of blessings.

Here are a few of my favorites from our maternity session from November:

Pricing Changes and a BIG Thank you

If you follow me on Facebook (or Twitter, but I’m terrible about updating Twitter) you may know that I moved into a new home on Christmas week. (Note to self and advice to you: NEVER move Christmas week. Never.) :) SO that is my number one excuse for being a poor blogger. If I were to get graded on my blogging skills I am sure my grade would be a big, fat FAIL. I have a few sessions that were amazing toward the end of the year that each deserve their own blog. I will do my best to post them soon.

One of the said sessions was a session for one of my good friend’s mom, Deborah Wittmier.  She needed head shots for her new book CROWNS: Five Eternal Rewards that Will Change the Way You Live Your Life . I was excited to do the shoot because she is such a wonderful, kind hearted person who does amazing work.  Her ministry involves reaching numerous cultures as she travels worldwide to teach the Word of God. We met a Daniel’s Park in Highlands Ranch, CO. I was so happy to learn that her book was getting published and one of the photos I took was going to be on the backside!  My very first published photograph!! (see below)  And THEN just a few days ago, I received a gift from Deborah…a signed copy of her book!  I have only read the first chapter and from what I have read already, I highly recommend it! You can read the first chapter and the purchase your own copy online.

Thank you, Deborah for such an amazing opportunity and also thank you for the signed copy of your book!

Also, I am exciting to announce a few changes in my pricing and some new added features (like brag books and birth announcements for babies!) So without further ado, below is a list that shows my new pricing structure and all of the packages that are available. The pricing will take effect immediately, but if you and I have been in communication about a particular service and you feel that the old package is a better fit just let me know. I’m flexible…don’t worry. I will also include my wedding rates below. These  are not changing and are not posted on my website, but just in case you’re browsing and are curious…here you go. :)

The Bucher’s | Family Fun

I am so behind in blogging that it is now past Thanksgiving and this set is from before Halloween.  eeek!  I have a pocket full of excuses, I will spare you the details.

I met the Bucher family at The Littleton Historical Museum, located in downtown Littleton, CO.  This has always been one of my all time favorite places to visit.  It is not only beautiful, educational and fun for the whole family but it’s free, too.  My favorite price.  :)

Once again, I was struggling with coming up with a location and then my wonderfully smart client suggested we meet here…what luck!  It was a perfect place to meet on a warm fall afternoon.  Their son was so much fun to photograph.  There is nothing better then photographing a family in love and one that will make you smile and laugh the whole session.  Thank you all so much for allowing me to share a glimpse into your lives.  I had a lot of fun and can’t wait to see you again soon!

Here are a couple of my favorites and some more in a video.

(I got new video software!  I love it!  Let me know what you think…)

Babies to Bellies | 4 Month Old Logan

I met Logan’s mama and daddy for their maternity pictures and then was blessed enough to be welcomed into their home for his newborn photos and recently, I got to photograph this loving family once again.  Logan is already 5 months old. (He is four months in the photos, I know, I know I am a blogging slacker! Actually, my computer and internet have been giving me havick, but that’s a whole other post.)

We met at the Botanical Gardens at Chatfield in Littleton, CO.  We met on the weekend of the fall festival, so it was interesting trying to find locations without a ton of people in the shots.  It was also a very warm and sunny day, so the sun was hot and bright.  We did, however have a ton of fun and Logan is a DOLL.  He is full of big smiles!  I cannot wait to see him again in a few months, I can already tell that he will have a belly-roll-laugh, you know the one I’m talking about.

Here are a few of my favorites from the session.  :)

Nathan & Jackie Are Having A Baby | Maternity

Note: The next few blogs are going to be a little behind.  My internet has been down for over a month…ugh.  Thank goodness for my Blackberry carrying me through with email and quick Google searches – you know for those times when my friends text me and ask random questions, such as if snakes have teeth or just fangs {they just have fangs, by the way})  Important stuff like that.  :)

Often my clients ask me to suggest a place to meet for our sessions and so often I can’t think of a place until the last minute.  I stress myself out over it, going over it in my mind over and over thinking that I am never going to come up with a location that is going to fit.   I am sure this can be a little frustrating for my clients, too, not knowing where we’re going to meet and all.  But I have to admit that once I come up with the location, it always seems to be meant to be.  This time is was most definitely meant to be; it was beyond perfect.

I met Nathan, Jackie, their puppy and Nathan’s parents at Cherry Creek Reservoir, located in Denver, CO.  We were meeting right about an hour before the sun was going to set, so the lighting could not have been better.  The weather was perfect too.  One week before and one week after we met we had snow.  It could not have been a better day, a better time,  a better place or a better couple.

Nathan and Jackie were so much fun to photograph.  Jackie is stunning; she is so beautiful and has that pregnancy glow about her.  They are so in love and so excited for their new addition to arrive in mid-November.  It was so refreshing to see two people who love each other so much and who share the anticipation of becoming new parents together.  I love they way that when their eyes meet, they both smirk a little bit and then sometimes just start laughing.  These two are going to be such loving and caring parents, it shows in their love for each other.

Thank you both for allowing me to capture such a happy time in your lives!  I cannot wait to come to your home in a few weeks to meet and photograph that little bundle of yours.

(By the way, I know the gender and the name, but am not sure if they are telling anyone, so if you want to know, you will just have to come back to see in a few weeks!)

Here are a few of my favorites and since I can’t choose just a few, here also is a video with a few more:

Kenny & Britta | Engagement In Downtown Denver

Yesterday I met Kenny and Britta in Downtown Denver for their engagement session.  Their wedding is scheduled for May 30, 2010.  We had a lot of fun walking around downtown and getting to know each other a little bit; one of the perks of having an engagement sessions – you get to know your wedding photographer and I am allowed to get to know my couples on a more personal level before their wedding day!

We met at Union Station and walked to the Millennium Bridge, Commons Park and Confluence Park.  It is obvious how much in love these two are.  Kenny is so gentle and kind and Britta looks at him with love filled eyes.  Like many couples, they were a little bit nervous about having their pictures taken but you could never tell in these pictures!  They came out great.  In fact, I had a really hard time choosing a few favorites out of this set for this blog.  So rather than adding unnecessary stress on myself, I will share my two most favorite.

Can’t wait until May!

Joe & Jillian | A Wedding

Joe and Jillian were married yesterday at the beautiful Denver Colorado LDS (Mormon) Temple.  I grew up less than a mile away from the Temple, so it was quite a treat to be so close to home. The skies were a magnificent blue and it was a perfect day for a wedding.  (ok, it was a little hot and it would have been a good idea to wear sunblock, but it wasn’t raining and as I already mentioned, the skies were crystal clear.)   My second shooter for the day was my mentor, the sensational and talented photographer Stephanie Osborne of Ardent Photography.

It was such an honor to be included in Joe and Jillian’s wedding day. They actually had already hired a photographer for their wedding day, but due to a schedule conflict their photographer was going to be unable to photograph at the Temple and would only be able to attend the reception later in the evening. So, lucky for me, they were in search of a photographer for the morning only. A lot of wedding photographers are unable to block out just a portion of their day during the peak of the wedding season, but since I work part time it was easy for me to fit their wedding into my schedule.

Mormon weddings (also known as a Sealing) are slightly different from traditional Christian weddings in that there are no photographs taken in the Temple.  So the anticipation of waiting for the couple to come out of the doors as husband and wife is so suspenseful and exciting.   We had so much fun taking photos around the Temple and then we went for a little drive and had a lot of fun at the brand new Streets of Southglenn and Southglenn Library.

Jill and Joe, I wish you many blessings and a lifetime of love, laughter and joy!  Thank you for including me in your day.

Here are a few of my favorites from the day!

10 (+) Guilty Pleasures | A Little About Me

I am just coming out of a very, very difficult time in my life.  I have been on a journey that I think very well could have broke my spirit if not for my faith in God: a difficult marriage, a terrible divorce, being a single mother of two children, living with my mother again, starting up a new business, holding a full time job and witnessing my daughters triumph through traumas they should have never had to have gone through.  Ever.

We all have struggles and we all have ways we get through them, too.

For a long time I did very little for myself.  I was always trying to be the person I was expected to be by others or myself.  During my marriage and soon after my separation from my marriage my main focus was always on my girls.  The one person I forgot about was me.  I still forget, probably too often, but I am trying to get better about taking care of myself.  Not so much for myself right now, but more for my girls.  I am a firm believer that our children learn from witnessing so much more than they do from being told.  If I tell my girls that it is important for them to take time out to pamper themselves, but they never witness me pampering myself, where is the lesson?  I tell them reading is fun but they never see me reading a book.  They will never believe me that it really is fun to read.

So today I decided that I would tell you a few of my guilty pleasures.  I started of with my top 10, but then decided  to add a couple of extras.  I gotta say, a year ago I wouldn’t have been able to come up with more than a handful, so since I was able to come up with more than 10 – I am pretty proud of myself.

10.  Sleeping in and then taking a nap a few hours later on the weekends when the girls are with their dad.

9.  Facebook.  Flickr.  Twitter.  iMeem.  Blogs.

8 1/2.  Reading – at least 1 chapter every night.

8.  Twilight

7.    Watching my favorite DVR’d shows late at night after everyone goes to sleep.  (Saving Grace, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol)

6.  Starbucks Chai Tea

5.  Going to Barnes and Noble by myself, get a chai and read random pointless books that make me laugh

5 1/2.  Going to the salon and getting pampered.  I love getting a fresh new hair cut, a little color change and a manicure/pedicure.  (This is pretty rare for me, but I still love it.)

4.  Driving in pure silence when I am alone or blasting the music as loud as it will go.  Depends on the day and my mood.

3 1/2. Staying up late.  In the dictionary under night owl there is a picture of your’s truly.  I love staying up late.  Trouble is that I also like waking up early.  Makes for a short night’s sleep – but it is so worth it.

3. Watching my girls sleep.  They are at such peace when they sleep.

2. Priceline.com – I heart staycations and priceline always makes them possible.

1 1/2.  Being with friends.  Whether it be lunch, dinner, drinks, talking on the phone or just texting randomness, I must say that without my girls I would not be the woman that I am today.

1. Photography – (bet you didn’t guess I was going to say that!)  Anything to do with photography: from actually taking the pictures, seeing the response of a mother seeing a photo I took of her child, to processing them, reading about photography techniques, reading other photographer blogs, looking at photographs…I love it ALL.

Now it’s your turn.  Leave a comment and tell me what are a few (or more) of your guilty pleasures?

Bellies to Babies | Logan …continued

Babies

Baby Logan was the sweetest, tiniest baby I have ever met. He was such a good and beautiful baby!  It was obvious that his mom and dad where head over hills in love with their tiny new miracle.

Every detail in the nursery had a story – from the last minute change in his crib to the history in the artwork.  His nursery was decorated perfectly with dark blue and white walls and his name in large bold letters, surly representing the man he will someday become.  His grandmother helped decorate; she even made the bedding for his crib and a lot of the accessories.  There was a painting on the wall of the Seven Dwarfs that Logan’s great grandfather had drawn many years before.  It was so cool to hear of all of the stories of a family who anxiously prepared for this little person they had not yet met, but yet were so in love.

It was fun sharing an afternoon surrounded by a loving family.  We had several laughs – especially when Logan showered his mom from accross the room…something he seems to enjoy doing a lot to his poor mother.  (there are perks to only having daughters, I was never showered from accross the room :) ).  Thank you to the K Family for welcoming me into your home and for sharing with me a glimpse of the love your family shares.

Here are a few of my personal favorites from our session.
