True Photography bio picture

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!  Here you will find updates, recent sessions and information about me and my girls.

My photography is natural, fun and candid.  I specialize in portraits of people, including families, bellies, babies, children, seniors, weddings, and events. I believe that candid photographs in natural lighting and natural scenery make the best photographs.  I will make suggestions for poses but find that the "between poses" are typically the best photographs because the forced smiles disappear which allows for a beautiful natural look.

I am a photographer. I am a mother. I capture raw moments. I have a quirky sense of humor. I love to laugh and I love to make people laugh. I am very sensitive & I cry…a lot.  I am thankful. I am blessed.

Baby Ella | Highlands Ranch, CO Newborn Photographer

I love photographing families in love.  Soon after a baby is born it is so cool to see parents connect with each other in a totally different way on a much deeper level than ever before- so much more love – love they didn’t even know was missing before their little bundle was in their lives.

Last week I had the honor of meeting the S family.  I have to say that their house was absolutly stunning and mom wins the “Best Nursery for a little Girl Ever in the History of the World” award.  If I were still a little girl it would be my dream room, ah heck, its still my dream room.  Pink, frilly and everything  girly.   It looked like one of those unacheivable perfectly decorated boutique baby shops, only better.  I am including only one detail shot here because I havn’t processed them all and was excited to get what I have up, but trust me – it was perfection.  Mom, if you are considering a career move I would suggest decorating nurseries.  Just saying.

Baby Ella is already three weeks old in these pictures, and as many of you know, three week olds can be a little moody and they already are getting their little personalities….much different from the first two weeks when all you want is for them to wake up.  Although I think mom and dad probably felt like she cried the entire time, she really didn’t….I have proof.

Memorial Day BBQ/Birthday Party | My Family

On Monday my family got together for a BBQ and birthday party for my step-brother.  My kids always have so much fun with their cousins.  Cousins are always cool to play with – there is never that awkward time getting to know each other before one brave kid asks the other if they want to play.  Cousins just play.

It was pretty entertaining to watch Ryann (3) and Shayna (4) learn to play new games like Red Light, Green Light; Duck, Duck, Goose and chase.  They have Ring-Around-the-Rosy down pat.  Haley (8)  is much faster than them both so she just ran around and let them get wore out…(thank you, Haley!).

My nephew, Zach is learning to walk and wished so much that he could run around with the girls – don’t worry, Zach, it won’t be long!

Oh, by the way, Haley and Shayna don’t have black eyes – they were playing with my makeup and they had some smeared mascara.

Kenny & Britta | Denver Wedding Photography

This past Sunday I had the honor of photographing Britta & Kenny’s wedding. Here are a couple of their engagement photos from last fall.

The wedding day weather was beautiful and it was an absolutely perfect day all around.  My second shooter for the day was the super talented Lindsay Carole.

I was able to get to know Britta a little bit over the past year and she is such a caring and giving person who loves her family so much. It is always such a pleasure to get to meet the families of the bride and groom and to get to see another side of them. Their friends and family were so kind and so much fun to be around. And everyone needs an aunt like Aunt Michelle. :)

Kenny and Britta are one of those couples who’s love for one another is heart melting. You can tell by the way the look into each other’s eyes and how they smile at each other from across the room how much they are in love.

Britta is stunning as it is, but when she put on her gown, she glowed. What a beautiful bride she makes. Kenny is one of those guys that makes you smile, he is funny and is always very happy. They make an exceptional couple and it is very apparent that these two are going to live a very, very joyful life together.

 The Rings…

The guys…

and the girls….

Is she not stunning?

Look at those eyes!

too funny…it’s an inside joke so you’ll have to ask the bride and groom about this one…

Meet Aunt Michelle.  This was right before Britta walked down the isle and although I couldn’t hear what they were saying, I almost cried watching them talk

What a lucky girl to have two men walk her down the isle – she is most certainly loved.

I think this is my fave of the day…

Proud parents…

Maternity and Newborn | Denver Portrait Photographer

Last month I got to meet the Family K “trio and a half” for a maternity session and then last week got to meet Baby K. Thier 2 year old daughter is a little bundle of fun & giggles. The day was cold and wet, so our plans to go outside were shot, but sometimes its fun to capture a family being a family at home.

Here are few of my favorites from our first session:

This little man has quite a mind of his own for a one week old!   He is such a cutie, though, isn’t he? Here are a few of my favorites from the newborn session:

Meet Zayden | Castle Rock, CO Newborn Photography

Zayden is such a sweet baby and even though she didn’t feel much like sleeping during my visit – I was still able to get lots of fun pictures.  She is a friend’s baby, so luckily for me I will probably get to see a whole lot of this little one. :)

Isn’t her mother GORGEOUS?

I love it when I can get a little smirk – and I don’t believe the old wives tale that babies only smile when they have gas. Its a smile, who cares why they’re smiling!! :)

Punk Rock baby!

There is nothing stronger in this world than the power of a mother’s love.

Cassie | Maternity

So since I am going to meet and photograph the baby tomorrow, I guess I better get the maternity pictures blogged. (I am getting better about blogging….this week, anyway!)

Cassie is a family friend who I have known most of her life. She is a beautiful person, inside and out. When she told me she was having a baby I could see the joy in her eyes and couldn’t have been more happy for her. She is going to make a great mother!

This was one of my all time favorite sessions, ever. I hate to brag (not really, I do like to brag) but I am pretty darn proud of how these photos turned out. Just see for yourself…..

When her Grandma (my friend, also) painted her walls this color I loved it. When I got to photograph Cas in front of it, I loved it even more!

Love this one:

I think this one is my favorite:

Can’t wait to meet that little baby girl tomorrow! I will post pictures soon…promise. :)

The Guy That Says Good Bye to You Is Out of His Mind

Ladies.  Watch this video.  Listen to the words and then listen again. This is a song I will play for my girlfriends and for my daughters every time they need this reminder: “You don’t need to change a thing about you babe. I’m telling you from where I sit, you’re one of a kind.”

Spring Break 2010 | My Family

Last week was spring break for our family.  Someone I know joked with me and asked if I was actually in Cancun with the MTV crowd.  I promise, I was not.

Our spring break was a bit more intimate.  I spent every moment that I could with my two daughters, Haley and Shayna.  I even vowed not to do extra work around the house, although it is much needed.  It was time for us to just be present in the moment and be worry free for 9 days.  (ok, I did cheat once: I had one photo session but that just helped us with some extra spending money for the week).

Rather than going somewhere that will require anonther week of vacation to recoop, we decided to stay home, hang out and play tourists in our own hometown – a stay-cation.

On Monday we stayed home and played. Tuesday we went bowling, went out to lunch at one of my favorites, Olive Garden and hung out with friends. Our plan for Wednesday was to go to the zoo, but on Tuesday night a blizzard dampened our plans. With a foot of snow on the ground, we decided to stay home Wednesday but brought spring back by spraying the snow bright springy colors with water and food coloring. Thursday we went to The Downtown Aquarium. Haley used my backup camera and took some pretty amazing pictures. (*bursting with pride*)  We ate lunch there and spent the afternoon watching fish, searching for tigers and petting and feeding the sting rays.  What better way to end the day than  to go to CiCi’s Pizza for dinner and have a sleep over with a friend?  (Ok, Cici’s Pizza is not that good, but 1.  It IS better than Chucky Cheese’s pizza 2. The kids love the place and 3.  It is really, really cheap).    Friday and Sunday were more days of relaxation at home.  We colored in coloring books, played with toys  & watched movies all day.  (I kind of feel bad, my kids biggest argument all week was whether they should be on Team Edward or on Team Jacob.  New Moon has that effect on all females apparently.  Even 3 year olds.  And by the way, Haley is on Team Jacob, Shayna is on Team Edward and I am on Team Jakward.  I would like a good mix of both, please) ….anyway…. Saturday was WONDERFUL. We spent the entire day at The Butterfly Pavillion, located in Broomfield, CO.  Who know that place was so cool?  Maybe my kids are just at the right age, but they had so much fun there and didn’t want to leave.   (it was a perk that it didn’t cost as much to get in as the Aquarium.  I think I would have liked the Aquarium more if I didn’t have to pay so darn much.)  We watched and played with bugs, spiders and thousands of butterflies.  We had fun, learned a lot and really connected as a family during our visit.  Thank you Butterfly Pavilion!!

Here is a slide show of our fun 2010 Spring Break:

Bellies to Babies | Family

I love working with first-time parents. During their maternity session, there is so much wonder, hope and enthusiasm.  When I come back a few months later, I can see on their faces so much excitement, so much joy and sometimes a bit of exhaustion.  They’re usually in a sleep-deprived daze, just living from one feeding to the next.  But best of all , you can tell that they are so flooded with pure bliss and love for this tiny, miraculous creature. It is so fun to sit and talk with them, hearing their stories about how the baby is sleeping, birthing experiences, the baby’s uniqueness, etc.

Luckily for these parents, their baby has been sleeping very well…except for today.  Although he was content as could be, Baby J had no interest in sleeping, which is one reason why I book several hours for newborn sessions.  I was thrilled to photograph such a beautiful, loving family.

Here is to many years full of love, laughter and an abundance of blessings.

Pricing Changes and a BIG Thank you

If you follow me on Facebook (or Twitter, but I’m terrible about updating Twitter) you may know that I moved into a new home on Christmas week. (Note to self and advice to you: NEVER move Christmas week. Never.) :) SO that is my number one excuse for being a poor blogger. If I were to get graded on my blogging skills I am sure my grade would be a big, fat FAIL. I have a few sessions that were amazing toward the end of the year that each deserve their own blog. I will do my best to post them soon.

One of the said sessions was a session for one of my good friend’s mom, Deborah Wittmier.  She needed head shots for her new book CROWNS: Five Eternal Rewards that Will Change the Way You Live Your Life . I was excited to do the shoot because she is such a wonderful, kind hearted person who does amazing work.  Her ministry involves reaching numerous cultures as she travels worldwide to teach the Word of God. We met a Daniel’s Park in Highlands Ranch, CO. I was so happy to learn that her book was getting published and one of the photos I took was going to be on the backside!  My very first published photograph!! (see below)  And THEN just a few days ago, I received a gift from Deborah…a signed copy of her book!  I have only read the first chapter and from what I have read already, I highly recommend it! You can read the first chapter and the purchase your own copy online.

Thank you, Deborah for such an amazing opportunity and also thank you for the signed copy of your book!

Also, I am exciting to announce a few changes in my pricing and some new added features (like brag books and birth announcements for babies!) So without further ado, below is a list that shows my new pricing structure and all of the packages that are available. The pricing will take effect immediately, but if you and I have been in communication about a particular service and you feel that the old package is a better fit just let me know.
